This is a community challenge dedicated to the celebration of poetry as inspiration.

The concept:

Each year, there will be a featured poet, and on January 1st, participants will be given a stanza or poetry fragment from the work of the featured poet as a prompt.

Participants will have 31 days to create something inspired by their prompt. There is already a fiction community for this challenge at [community profile] poetry_fiction, so this challenge will focus on other types of creative output.

There really aren't many of them, so this should be easy.

This challenge is open to both original and fandom contributions. If it isn't fiction, we want it. Everything is welcome. Art, fanart, photo manips, meta, fanmixes, knitting patterns, macaroni castles, podfic, femslash, gen, het, slash. Any and every fandom, genre, rating, kink, trope, etc. As such, please show care and consideration for the following (taken pretty much verbatim from [ profile] bethbethbeth):

• Ensure that your work doesn't perpetuate oppressive, discriminatory tropes and attitudes.

• Don't exploit other people's tragedies or cultures in your work.

• Please research before writing about places and peoples with which you're only vaguely familiar.

  • Once you're finished with your piece, you can post it wherever you'd like, as long as it's linked back to the community. Just remember to use a cut tag when you post to the community.

  • When you get ready to post the piece or link to the community, please use the content header html:

  • Here's the html for the content notice. Please warn for noncon, dubcon, incest, and character death, as well as anything else that you think might be potentially triggering. Alternately, you have the option to say 'I choose not to warn' on your header if that's your cup of tea. It's up to you. Highlight to read text was created by [personal profile] amadi.

Where 'titleofwork' would, of course, be the title of your contribution.

After all, it doesn't hurt to be courteous, right?

  • Most importantly, relax! Have fun! This is an opportunity to learn some great poetry and make some great creations!

Timeframe and deadlines:
  • Featured poet will be announced November 1, 2015. Sign ups begin.

  • Sign ups close December 31st, 2015, at 11:59 p.m. CST.

  • Stanzas and poetry fragments will be given out on January 1, 2016.

  • The creation period is from January 1, 2016 to January 31, 2016.

  • Posting begins February 1, 2016 through February 7, 2016.

  • Amnesty will begin on February 10, 2016. You have until September 30, 2016 to post your piece, as on October 1, 2015 the featured poet will change.

  • There is permanent amnesty for all challenges

Finally, if anyone has any questions that are not answered here, feel free to ask questions in this post. Or you can send a PM.
